Discontinued vs Out of Stock: What’s Really Happening With Modere Products

Are Modere Products Discontinued, or Just Out of Stock? These aren’t the same thing – and given what actually happened to Modere, the distinction matters more than usual.

Two Different Words, Two Different Meanings

Discontinued means a product is gone for good – the company has decided to stop making it, permanently. Out of stock means it’s temporarily unavailable, but expected to come back once supply catches up. Normally that distinction is straightforward. With Modere, it’s genuinely murkier, because the reason products are unavailable isn’t a normal supply hiccup – it’s that the entire company stopped operating.

Why This One’s Genuinely Confusing

Modere shut down entirely in April 2025 after 23 years in business. Shaklee then acquired the rights to the Modere product range weeks later, and has been gradually relaunching parts of it ever since – starting with the two biggest names, Liquid BioCell Collagen and Trim. Shaklee’s own messaging says “more Modere products coming soon,” which tells you something important: most of what’s currently unavailable is being framed as pending relaunch, not permanently killed off.

That said, nobody outside Shaklee has confirmed a full, final list of exactly which products will eventually return and which won’t. So if you’re searching “is my old Modere product discontinued,” the honest answer right now is: probably not officially discontinued, but genuinely unavailable, and nobody’s given a firm timeline.

What This Means If You’re Still Waiting

If a product you used has been unavailable for months with no firm return date, waiting indefinitely isn’t really a plan – especially for things you use daily, like a toothpaste or mouth rinse. Whether Shaklee eventually calls a specific item “discontinued” or just leaves it unavailable indefinitely, the practical outcome for you is the same either way. The Bigger Pattern Worth Knowing

This uncertainty – not knowing if your product is gone forever or just delayed – is exactly the kind of thing that happens when a product line depends on a company’s ownership rather than a single formulator’s ongoing commitment. Modere itself traces back to one of Tom Mower’s earlier companies. Tom’s own path since has been different: he founded and has personally owned Sisel International since 2006, rather than building something that could later be sold, closed, or acquired by someone else.
