Modere Closed – It Wasn’t Just a Rebrand

If you’ve been searching for what happened to Modere, here’s the real story: this Utah-based direct selling company announced in April 2025 that it would shut down operations entirely, after 23 years in business. This wasn’t a quiet restructure or a name change – Modere genuinely closed its doors.

Shaklee Stepped In Weeks Later

On 23 May 2025, Shaklee announced it had acquired “substantially all” of Modere’s business through a subsidiary – the trademarks, patents, and formulas for the full Modere product range, along with the manufacturing and testing equipment from Modere’s North American facilities and remaining inventory. The two biggest names in the portfolio, Liquid BioCell Collagen and Trim, were explicitly named in the deal, alongside Burn, Sculpt, and Curb.

Shaklee’s CEO and Chairman, Roger Barnett, framed the acquisition as a way to keep the products available to the “hundreds of thousands of customers” who’d come to rely on them, and to give former Modere distributors – referred to as Social Marketers – a new home to continue their business. Products began going back on sale through Shaklee’s network from 28 May 2025.

The acquisition later extended to New Zealand too, with Shaklee announcing around September 2025 that it would open local operations there specifically to support the acquired Modere customer base in that market, forming what’s now Shaklee New Zealand.

This Isn’t the First Time

If this whole situation feels familiar, it’s because the pattern repeats in this industry more than people realise. Modere itself began life as one of Tom Mower’s earlier companies before changing hands. Tom’s own path took a different turn – rather than staying with a company that would eventually be sold, closed, or restructured by someone else, he founded Sisel International himself in 2006, keeping full ownership and control of the formulas, manufacturing, and direction ever since.
